Greetings and Welcome to Prairie Health Ventures

The name Prairie Health Ventures is new to the marketplace but our business is not. For over thirty years we have been assisting hospitals across NE, Western IA and Northern KS in controlling costs and improving quality. With the change of names we have embarked on a new era of collaboration where we are actively seeking new ventures which will bring value to our members. If you are a hospital and not already a member of our group, please allow us to share our vision and who knows……You might just want to come along for the ride!

David Christensen
CEO, Prairie Health Ventures

Thirteenth Annual Executive Leadership Retreat

Prairie Health Ventures hosted its 13th annual Executive Leadership Retreat July 17 & 18 in Nebraska City. Designed for hospital CEO’s and Board Members, this two day conference focuses on the “hot” topics that are grabbing the headlines of the healthcare industry. This year the focal point was on the upcoming presidential election and its effect on healthcare.

With
the heads of both Nebraska political parties kicking off the conference, the groundwork was set for lively discussions and informative presentations. In addition, perspectives from both the business world and the healthcare environment were presented. Although definitive platforms were not possible to define, the conference provided the setting to get people to think, discuss and interact Sprinkle in an update on healthcare legal issues, Premier’s activities in Washington and an introduction to Alegent’s eICU and eHospital, you have a diverse, but highly educational, retreat.

Wrapping up the event was Terry Bowden, college football coach, media analyst and exclusive college football writer for Yahoo sports. Being a member of the well-known Bowden family, he had many anecdotes
pertaining to his experiences, and successfully interjected them into a well received talk on leadership. We thank everyone who participated in making this yet another successful event.

Annual Membership Conference a "roaring" success!

With surprising comments, and very interesting items, Prairie Health Ventures Eleventh Annual Membership Conference came to a close in a session that was all about antiques; the business itself, how to determine value, and even some on the spot appraisals. Tom Bassett, a local antique appraiser - the official appraiser of Pioneer Village - spent over an hour discussing what to look for, how price is determined and expectations of the general public.

Comments gathered during the two-day event were very positive and encouraging. The five-hour presentation - Implementing Lifestyle Changes - was very well received and we again want to thank Mike Monaghan and Tom Lenz from Creighton University School of Pharmacy for all of their time and dedication to make the program a success. Nursing and pharmaceutical credits were available as well, thanks to Nancy Tourek of Boys Town and the Creighton University School of Pharmacy. The session focused on exercise, smoking cessation, diabetes, diet, and behavior changes.

Over $1400 was raised for the Rowe Sanctuary in Gibbon, as our Chip in for Charity recipient. Focusing on the maintenance of wildlife habitat that benefits cranes and other wildlife and education programs for all ages is their goal, and we are proud to have been able to make a donation to their worthy mission.

A sold out vendor fair occupied the middle of the second day with representation from numerous lines of business under the Premier line of contracts. A cyber café
was available for attendees to check email during the conference and water coolers were provided for members to refill their sport water bottles to help minimize waste from the conference. A demonstration of African dance performed during Wednesday's lunch was quite exciting and our awards dinner on Wednesday evening combined to offer plenty of variety for those in attendance. We understand it's difficult to get away from your daily commitments, so we truly appreciate everyone who was involved - including the attendees, speakers, vendors and volunteers. It may a jungle out there, but hopefully we've provided you with a few tools to see your way through!

Chip In for Charity

In conjunction with the Prairie Health Ventures Membership Conference the past five years, we have held a fund raising event called, 'Chip In for Charity'. The event has featured a raffle of items provided by our generous vendors. The following organizations are past recipients of the proceeds of the event.

The Nebraska Stroke Foundation
The mission of the Nebraska Stroke Foundation is the prevention of stroke through education and to maximize the quality of life for stroke survivors and their families.

Concerned Nebraskans for Cystic Fibrosis (CNCF)
Concerned Nebraskans for Cystic Fibrosis is a non-profit support group in Lincoln organized over 20 years ago and is comprised of family and friends of CF patients. Because there is no paid staff, all proceeds raised by CNCF go directly to CF research or programs and activities for CF patients and their families. The members of Clowning Around entertained the attendees of the membership conference.

Hearts United for Animals
Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill animal shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization dedicated to the relief of suffering. They rescue dogs from all over the country and specialize in long distance adoptions. They take the creatures who are lost, afraid, hungry or ill and comfort them, give them a warm, soft bed, good food, medical care and most of all, love.

Wounded Warriors
Wounded Warriors is a Nebraska non-profit organization. Their mission is to provide support to the families of those who have been wounded, injured or killed during combat operations. The families of our casualties suffer in many ways: some financially, some psychologically.

Rowe Sanctuary
Lillian Annette Rowe Bird Sanctuary, commonly known as Rowe Sanctuary, is dedicated to the conservation of sandhill cranes, whooping cranes and other migratory birds, and their habitat along the Platte River in southcentral Nebraska. Every spring the Rowe Sanctuary is the home of the National Geographic CraneCam which features live video streaming of the annual Sandhill Crane migration.
